چکیده
Despite the implications for policy, empirical evidence on relative importance of factors that shape labor supply responses is missing. This paper helps fill this gap and quantifies role information frictions versus other by combining notches in Norwegian welfare system quasi-experimental variation access to about slope location kinks. While we estimate a frictionless elasticity 0.3, overall attenuate 70 percent. We find letter increased earnings from 0.06 0.15, implying account at least 30 percent total attenuation. Labor Market Responses to Payroll Tax Subsidies
In a high tax, high minimum wage labor market like France, payroll subsidies can reduce the minimum labor cost and expand employment opportunities for the low-skilled. Effects of these subsidies go beyond the directly affected. A particular concern is that high quality jobs may be replaced with lower quality ones, which hurts the employment opportunities of highly skilled workers and is costly ...

We explore the impact of the child care tax credit in the U.S. income tax system on the labor supply decisions of married women with young children by incorporating the cost of child care into a structural labor supply model. Using data from the 1986 NLSY, we find that government subsidies to child care increase labor supply substantially. Our policy simulations show that an increase in the val...
متن کاملLabor Supply Effects of the Earned Income Tax Credit under Labor Supply Restrictions
Previous empirical papers find that single mothers respond to EITC changes through the labor force participation (extensive) margin, not through the hours (intensive) margin. This is not predicted by standard labor supply models. My paper investigates labor supply effects of the EITC with a structural model, augmented with two factors that limit workers’ hours choices: costs of working and diff...

Economists’ most basic model for studying Social Security policy issues is the so—called life—cycle model of saving behavior. This paper sets up a life—cycle model in which a household simultaneously chooses its lifetime consumption profile and retirement age. The paper calibrates parameters from Consumer Expenditure Survey data, making special use of observations of changes in household consum...
